"What Are the Different Kinds of Chargers?"
|
There are different ways to re-charge your cellular battery:
when a wall outlet is within reach
when you're in your car
Travel chargers (such as this one for
the Nokia 3300)
and desktop chargers (such as this one for
the Audiovox 9100)
use a wall outlet
(and a DC converter). Most cell phones come with at least a travel charger;
it will re-charge your battery while it is still in the phone. A desktop
charger has two added conveniences: it provides a handy cradle to hold
your cellphone while it's charging, and, if it's a
Motorola Dual Desktop Charger, it will have another recepticle that
will re-charge a spare battery at the same time. However, the cradle is
shaped to match your phone, so if you purchase a battery that changes
the shape of your phone (most extended batteries will do this) your
LG 510 dual desktop charger
is history.
Car chargers (such as this one for
several Samsung models) plug in to the standard cigarette lighter
found in cars. We carry many OEM (brand name) car chargers (such as this
one for the
LG vx4400). In most cases, the electrical characteristics of a charger
are specific to a given phone series, and only a few phones (such as the
Kyocera 2035) use a generic or "standardized" charger. Because they
tend to receive rough handling, the durability of a car charger is a real
consideration. We carry a line of "Xtreme Car Chargers" (such as this
one for
the LG vx6000) that are ruggedized. They cost a bit more and come
in spiffy colors (blue or siver), instead of boring
old black. An added benefit of Xtreme chargers is that they can reliably
quick-charge your battery. (Unlike car batteries, you can quick-charge
cellular batteries without sacrificing service life.)
